According to Deborah Barrett (Barrett 2013), charisma is usually interpreted as “a personal magic of leadership arousing special popular loyalty or enthusiasm for a public figure”. Obviously, the world magic symbolizes the specific emotional connection between the employees and their leader. These emotional relations are based on respect, trust, and pure admiration.

It is fair to suggest that employees become hypnotized by the activities and decisions of their leader. Needless to say, that such a communication between a leader and the members of his team could have both positive and negative outcomes. There exists an opinion that any talented leader has to possess charisma in order to achieve success in the 21st century. It is crucial to analyze this statement in order to explain the efficiency of charismatic leadership in the globalized world.

Charisma is beneficial for any leader due to the importance of the transformational leadership for the survival of an organization. It is essential to note that the modern leadership strategies seriously differ from the common leadership behavioral patterns of the 1980s, 1990s, and even 2000s. The leaders of the earlier epoch were only focused on the control of the working activities. Their aim was to guarantee the implementation of the tactical and strategic steps. Furthermore, they did not use creative skills to influence the behavior of the employees. The basic reason for it is connected with the fundamental change of the economic relations due to the liberalization of the markets.

It is evident that globalization led to the qualitatively new structuring of business and its basic principles. Thus, the impact of change on the financial results of the organization has significantly increased. It means that any company has to be ready to struggle for survival in the highly competitive transnational market. The crisis of the 2008-2010 demonstrated that the Chinese, German, and American companies are economically and financially interconnected. Therefore, every company faces the challenge in the case of the global financial crisis. Accordingly, one of the primary leader’s roles is to guarantee the sustainability of a company during the process of change. The adaption to the new market rules becomes possible in case if a company performs as a solid mechanism.

Bernard Bass (Bass 2005) highlights that the sustainability of a company could be achieved only in accordance with the principles of the transformational leadership. Transformational leader prepares his or her team to overcome the difficulties of potential change and pass through the process of dialectical evolution. James Burns (Burns 2004) states that many employees resist change due to their fear of uncertainty. The transformational leader helps them to overcome their fear by the demonstration of the personal example. Consequently, a leader needs to implement charisma as a method of the behavioral pattern’s retranslation.

It becomes clear that charisma is central to the functioning of any organization in conditions of the modern business environment. The use of charisma is beneficial for the solution of the human resources issues, such as change resistance and excessive turnover. The personal loyalty to a leader and the intention to follow his or her steps provides a chance for a company to overcome the difficulties and motivate the employees to fulfill all the required tasks. In the long run, a charismatic leader builds a strong team, which is able to cope with urgent challenges as soon as it is possible.
