The Lord of the Rings Film Review Essay

The Lord of the Rings Film Review Essay

The current paper discusses one of my favourite films “The Lord of the Rings” directed by Peter Jackson. The film describes the amazing journey of four hobbits, who are Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Meriadoc Brandybuck, and Peregrin Took. They are the representatives of the specific race, living in the small territory with its rules and traditions. They were destined to make a journey from the Shire to the eastern lands of Mordor to destroy the ring created by the evil sorcerer Sauron. This ring is the source of the Sauron’s power. It could only be destroyed in the flames of Mount Doom, which is situated in Mordor. Sauron has once lost this ring in battle. However, he is constantly trying to find it with the help of his orc army and nine nazguls, who are the souls of the dead warriors.

The Mordor is the region controlled by Sauron. The hobbits need to travel from the western part of the Middle-earth, which is a fantastic world settled by various creatures and humans beings, to the east, where the Morder is situated. Fortunately, they are not alone because the wise wizard Gandalf, the dwarf Gimli, the elf Legolas, and two man Aragorn and Boromir are going to help them. They name themselves “the brotherhood of the ring”. Obviously, it would be very hard for them to achieve the final aim and destroy the ring.

The film was directed by Peter Jackson. The screenplay is based on the famous book “The Lord of the Rings” written by J.R.R. Tolkien. It took more than four years to make this film because it consists of the three parts. These parts have a big running time. The general running time of the film is 558 minutes. The director’s cut is much more bigger. The film was made in New Zealand, which became the symbol of the Middle-Earth. The main roles were played by Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Vigo Mortensen, and many other actors. There is a huge amount of influential heroes in the narrative of the film. The trilogy is extremely popular in the world. It has received seventeen Oscars and many other cinematography awards. The popular culture was shaped by the influence of the Lord of the Rings.

I am sure that it is essential for anyone to view this film. First, it seems to be one of the best adaptations of the book ever existed in cinematography. Peter Jackson succeeded in creation of the amazing world, which is inhabited by different creatures. The director did not use many special effects. He tried to show the appearance of the orcs, hobbits, elfs, and other creatures with the help of make up. Thus, the picture looks very truthful. Furthermore, Peter Jackson avoided serious contradictions with plot. Therefore, the fans of the books were very satisfied with the story. Furthermore, the film is technically perfect, especially in the aspect of light and reflection of the dialogues.

Second, the film brilliantly reveals the spiritual power of common people with the help of the hobbits. Evidently, the main heroes are not heroes at all at the beginning of the story. They are common hobbits, who are not famous for heroic deeds or any other achievements. However, the call of duty makes them to change their measured life on for adventures and dangers of the Big Road. It is very ispiring to observe the changes, which happen with them during their long journey.

Finally, the Lord of the Rings continues to be one of the most interesting stories about the battle between Good and Evil. The plot shows that very often people could become prone to evil. However, the sincere friendship and dedication to the final aim could protect the hearts of people from despair and malice.

It is possible to conclude that the Lord of the Rings films is one of the best films ever made in the history of cinematography. With the help of constant description of the long journey of hobbits, the plot also discusses the issues of love, friendship, valor, heroism, malice, betrayal, and other important aspects of the human life. The director tries to show that dedication to truth and friendship could be more powerful than the huge armies with the best technological innovations. Some people argue that Tolkien tried to criticize industrialization by making orcs to be the followers of iron and engineering. It could also be a topic for discussion after watching the film because the intention of people to conquer the world with technologies could be very dangerous. Thus, the film would be actual for a long time.
